Frenectomy (tongue tie)

  • Procedure used to correct a congenital condition in which the tongue (lingual) or upper lip (labial) frenulum is too tight

  • This restriction can cause difficult with breastfeeding and speech

  • Surgical procedure (using a laser) for removal or loosening of a band of muscle tissue that allows tongue/upper lip to move freely

  • When someone has a piece of skin inhibiting proper tongue movement, then a dentist will perform a frenectomy which will free up the tongue
